Mother's Day 2013

I'm pretty sure that I call my mom (and dad) for help and love and support and advice more often now, as a college graduate than I did as a freshman in college.  I would be nowhere without my mom helping to calm me down when I'm anxious or to help me feel happier when I'm feeling sad.  I have loved Taylor Swift's song "Best Day" ever since I first heard it, but I don't see it here on my blog.  This song makes me think of Mom, Dad, and Mason.  It's perfect.

Lyrics:
I'm five years old, it's getting cold, I've got my big coat onI
hear your laugh and look up smiling at you, I run and run
Past the pumpkin patch and the tractor rides, look now, the sky is gold
I hug your legs and fall asleep on the way home

I don't know why all the trees change in the fall
But I know you're not scared of anything at all
Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away
But I know I had the best day with you today

I'm thirteen now and don't know how my friends could be so mean
I come home crying and you hold me tight and grab the keys
And we drive and drive until we found a town far enough away
And we talk and window shop 'til I've forgotten all their names

I don't know who I'm gonna talk to now at school
But I know I'm laughing on the car ride home with you
Don't know how long it's gonna take to feel okay
But I know I had the best day with you today

I have an excellent father, his strength is making me stronger
God smiles on my little brother, inside and out, he's better than I am
I grew up in a pretty house and I had space to run
And I had the best days with you

There is a video I found from back when I was three
You set up a paint set in the kitchen and you're talking to me
It's the age of princesses and pirate ships and the seven dwarfs
And Daddy's smart and you're the prettiest lady in the whole wide world

And now I know why the all the trees change in the fall
I know you were on my side even when I was wrong
And I love you for giving me your eyes
For staying back and watching me shine
And I didn't know if you knew, so I'm takin' this chance to say
That I had the best day with you today

"Living In The Moment"

I absolutely love Jason Mraz.  I stumbled across across one of his new songs "Living in the Moment" while listening this playlist on Songza and I immediately pressed the thumbs up button, googled the lyrics to this song, and added the song on Spotify. (Random tangent: It's pretty ridiculous just how many different ways it is to listen to music now.  You'd think between my CD's, car radio, iTunes, Pandora, last.fmGrooveshark, Youtube, Songza, Spotify,  and my iPhone which has access to most of these music mediums, I'd have enough ways to listen to any song I want whenever I want.  And you'd probably be right.  But should it really take so many different avenues to get music?  I think it's slightly ridiculous, but I've pretty much almost always got at least one of them playing. I may be slightly addicted. I wonder if that's healthy?  But I digress.) Just ask my mother, this song is exactly what I need right now.  This past month have been absolutely insane and I have a feeling the next few months are going to be even crazier.  Now most of the madness has actually been very positive and I am so grateful for the opportunities that have been presented in my life right now.  But as good as they have been, they have also been stressful and I've been feeling really anxious, which I know is not healthy.  I know that I need to "run and hide my crazy and start acting like a lady" and "I wish I could be just a little less dramatic" (Miranda Lambert, "Mama's Broken Heart").  This song helps me to be a little less crazy and dramatic.  Jason Mraz is a genius, there isn't a song of his that I have heard that I haven't loved.  This song is like a grown up version of "Hakuna Mata"  which is perfect because I love that song but I'm not so good at having "no worries for the rest of my days."  But I'm going to try to be better at living in the moment with no worries.

Enjoy!

Video:

Lyrics:

If this life is one act
Why do we lay all these traps
We put 'em right in our path
When we just wanna be free

I will not waste my days
Making up all kinds of ways
To worry about all things
That will not happen to me

So I just let go of what I know I don't know
And I know I'll only do this by
Living in the moment
Living my life
Easy and breezy
With peace in my mind
With peace in my heart
Peace in my soul
Wherever I'm going, I'm already home
Living in the moment

I'm letting myself off the hook for things I've done
I let my past go past
And now I'm having more fun
I'm letting go of the thoughts
That do not make me strong
And I believe this way can be the same for everyone

And if I fall asleep
I know you'll be the one who'll always remind me
To live in the moment
To live my life
Easy and breezy
With peace in my mind
With peace in my heart
With peace in my soul
Wherever I'm going, I'm already home

I can't walk through life facing backwards
I have tried
I tried more than once to just make sure
And I was denied the future I'd been searching for
But I spun around and searched no more
By living in the moment
Living my life
Easy and breezy
With peace in my mind
With peace in my heart
With peace in my soul
Wherever I'm going, I'm already home

I'm living in the moment
I'm living my life
Just taking it easy
With peace in my mind
I got peace in my heart
I got peace in my soul
Oh, wherever I'm going, I'm already home
I'm living in the moment
I'm living my life
Oh, easy and breezy
With peace in my mind
I got peace in my heart
I got peace in my soul
Oh, wherever I'm going, I'm already home
I'm living in the moment

To Celebrate Valentines Day

I've been listening to my "Silly Love Songs" playlist.  Classics from Boys Like Girls, The Beatles, T. Swift, Hairspray, Rascal Flatts, and Alex Goot. And I ate sugar cookies, watched movies, looked at the book "Pawnee" from Parks and Recreation, gave away Valentines "Elementary School Style", and ate Stephen Colbert's Americone Dream Ice Cream.  That's all my idea of a great Valentines.

Hope you had an amazing Valentines Day!

"I Just Want To Be Ok"

Everyone has days when they feel like the world has been down on them.  When they feel judged and stupid mistakes throw them off.  And sometimes, for whatever reason, life just isn't ok.  When I get those days I listen to this song by Ingrid Michaelson.  It's so simple, but so true.

"I Don't Care For Your Fairy tales"

Honestly, 90% of the time, I love fairy tales.  I'm a sucker for any good Disney movie with a princess and prince and a good old fashioned happy ending (I mean, how cute is Tangled?! Seriously!)  And I love Taylor Swift fairy tale songs with happy endings as well (Is it possible to find a better song than "Love Story" or "Enchanted" or "Mine" or "Fearless" or any happy T. Swift song?)  I love Jane Austen novels which don't get much more fairy tale.  And I'm probably the biggest romantic day dreamer that I know.  But sometimes I get to the point where I'm like "Forget this!  It's overrated anyway. Boys are dumb. Guys are gay.  And real men don't exist anymore.( Go here for a refresher on the difference between boys, guys, and men.)  At times like that I listen to Carry Underwood's "The More Boys I Meet" and Sara Bareilles "Fairytale".  And occasionally I'll go for Broadway tunes like "You Can't Get A Man With A Gun" and the ever classic "I Hate Men".

"I'm Not Crazy, I'm Just Sensitive"

So you remember when I told you all that I had found a new obsession in Alex Goot.  Yeah it's a true story.         As a matter of fact I'm going to share another one of his music videos with you all.  Because I'm just kind like that and want to introduce you to amazing music.  I've had his song "Sensitivity" on replay today.  I don't know what it is about a gorgeous, nerdy guy who has a beautiful voice and sings sensitive, melancholy songs, but he absolutely melts my heart.  And the lyrics to this song are how I would describe my life this past week or two and how I hope it will go in the future.

"I don't even know the real me anymore
I can't even show how I feel
I hit the floor
I'm talking rock bottom
My feelings I fought 'em
I can't believe it's come to this
Cause I need a grip on reality

Now I wanna feel some sensitivity

I've been doing fine in my misery
Not crazy
I told them not to worry about me"

The Days of Singer/Song Writer Melancholy

Lately I've been listening to a lot of melancholy music by singer/song writers like Dia Frampton (my pick to win The Voice), Alex Goot (swoon),  Sara Bareilles, and Ingrid Michaelson, just to name a few.  Dia recently came out with a new CD and her single "The Broken Ones" is one of my new favorites.  I'm not going to lie, the music video is a little weird and I'm not a huge fan of her extensions, but the song is great and her voice is amazing, like always.

"I can't help it,
I love the broken ones,
The ones who need the most patching up.
The one's who've,
 Never been loved

Maybe I see a part of me in them.

No your not alone
I love the broken ones."

New Favorite!

I recently found a new obsession and his name is Alex Goot.  He's a new musician and I love all of his stuff: covers, originals, everything.  This video isn't a very good video of him, he's actually much more good looking.  Seriously. Gorgeous.  But this is my favorite song of his.  It's been on repeat on my grooveshark for a week or so now.  Enjoy!  :)

I thought this was cool

This is kind of old news, but I still think it's really cool.  I don't know if you got to see this article and video about Brandon Flowers from The Killers and his new "I'm A Mormon" ad but I think it's awesome so I thought I'd share.  I love The Killers and Brandon Flowers has one of the coolest voices ever.

Playlist:
"Mr. Brightside"
"Human" (Probably my favorite Killers song, love the 80's vibe and the nonsensical lyrics.  And you have to love those cool Utah red rocks in the background of the music video.)
"Somebody Told Me"
"When You Were Young"
"Read My Mind"

Life Lately According To Me And My IPod

Free Skull Candy Headphones . . .  The perks of going to treatments at a cancer center.  :)

First Day Of Snow

Yes, I know that gratitude is spelled wrong, my roommate insisted on writing the sign, and I didn't have the heart to correct her spelling...

November Tradition . . . The Gratitude Wall :)

In other news, I was very sad to hear the sad news about Poor Old Juniper Hall.  So many good memories from freshman year there.

I Think She Should've Won The Voice

But that's just my personal opinion. This is one of my all time favorite songs ever and Dia does a great job with it.  I've been listening to her singing all day on youtube.  She rocks my socks.  I expect to see great things froom her.  Way to represent the Sunny South Dia!  :)  And I happen to think she had the best coach - Blake Shelton!  But Javier is awesome too, I love his and Adam's duet Man In The Mirror.  I could listen to it all day!  I think that they did a better job then Michael did.

All The Single Ladies Put Your Hands Up!

Wait....

I'm the only one left?

Awkward....

Just kidding, it only feels that way some of the time.  I guess that's why I've been listening to this song because let's face it, the chipettes do the song way better then Beyonce. Carrie Underwood's "The More Boys I Meet" has also been on my playlist lately.

Here's a big shout out to my no longer single friends, especially to my cousin Lindsey who got engaged this week! This song and this song and this song are for you guys!  Seeing everybody else's successful relationships give me hope that someday I'll find my own happy ending!  :)

Footloose - Original Music Video

This song came on the radio today and I realized that is how I feel after a long day at work.  Enjoy! :)

Dear Billy Joel,

I vote that you start writing more verses of "We Didn't Start The Fire".  Because seriously, you thought the fire was burning then back then?  The fire has burned so much more in the past twenty years. I mean Clinton, Bush, Obama, Princess Di died, Waco Texas, 9/11, We got Osama, just to name a few ideas you could work with.  If you could keep the song up with the times, it would be twenty million times cooler, and it's already an amazing song.  Definitely one of my favorites.  If you could work on that it would be amazing!  :)

Love,

Kelsi
